Duty to Manage Asbestos
Under this legislation if you have building/maintenance/repair responsibilities for your organisation/premises you will be required to manage the risk from asbestos exposure by:
- Taking reasonable steps to determine the location of materials likely to contain asbestos
- Assume all materials contain asbestos, unless there is sufficient evidence to say otherwise
- Make and maintain a written record of the asbestos and assumed asbestos materials (REGISTER)
- Monitor the condition of any asbestos materials on a regular basis
- Assess the risk of exposure, and document action necessary to manage the risk
- Prepare a plan to put the above steps into action and put you plan into action
- Ensure anyone likely to come into contact with asbestos has information on asbestos locations
